About the Artist

Painting With Passion

Sheryl Waugh was born and raised on a small farm in rural Tennessee. She's had a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of God's creation and the quiet pace of country life. After a long and successful career that allowed her to express her creativity in other ways, Sheryl retired and painting became her new creative passion.

Oil painting is Sheryl's medium of choice, though she also works in acrylic and gouache. Painting both in the studio and En Plein Air, Sheryl's past career as a colorist helped pave the way in painting by making color mixing very easy. She was very creative in her former career, which has carried over to her natural ability of painting. Sheryl uses her time outdoors to deepen her understanding of color, light, shadow and atmosphere. She has become recognized for her warm color palette and soft, romantic style of a tonalist.

Sheryl's artistic growth has been enriched by intense study with well-respected masters as well as the inspiration of the old masters who greatly influenced her style of soft atmospheric scenes.

Scenic trips throughout the United States and abroad continue to give her inspiration for new work. Whether capturing the essence of Tennessee farmland, sweeping mountain vistas of the west, or scenes discovered along the way, Sheryl's paintings convey a quiet sense of peace and a profound connection to the natural beauty of the world.

Though her art, she shares the beauty she sees in the world and hopes it encourages others to slow down and enjoy life's simple blessings. Sheryl's wish is to create an emotional connection with each person who views her work and touch your heart as painting has hers.

Her work is represented by Hillyer House in Ocean Springs, Mississippi; Bénie Gifts in Fairview, Tennessee and Hodges Gifts and Gallery in Dickson, Tennessee.
